The short version. PetCare Atlas is a directory of UK pet-care providers, built from public professional registers. Most people described here never signed up — we listed them from a register. If that is you and you would rather not be listed, there is a Remove this listing link on every listing page, and we will act on it. For visitors, we use no advertising trackers, store no raw IP addresses, and never record what you typed into a search box.

This is the part that matters most, because you are probably reading it having found yourself here without ever having visited before.
Where your details came from
We did not get them from you. Listings are built from public professional registers and directories published by the bodies below, plus a small number of entries researched by hand from practices’ own websites:

What we hold
Your name or practice name, the practice address and postcode, and whichever of a phone number, email address and website the register published. Alongside that: your professional type, any accreditations the register records, and in some cases a short description drawn from your own website. Where a register lists an individual practitioner rather than a premises, the listing is about a person, and that makes it personal data.
Why we are allowed to
Our lawful basis is legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)): helping pet owners find appropriate care, using information their professional bodies already publish for that purpose. We think that is a fair use of already-public professional listings. You are entitled to disagree, and the next section is how you say so.
Getting your listing removed
Open your listing and use Remove this listing at the bottom of the page. We email you a link to confirm the request. If the address you give is one already published on the listing, the page comes down as soon as you open that link. Otherwise a person checks the request first — because confirming an email address shows you can read that inbox, not that the listing is yours, and we are not willing to let anyone remove anyone else’s listing.
Either way we respond within one month. You can also just email us; the address is at the bottom of this page.
A removal is permanent. We keep a one-way fingerprint of the listing — not your name, an irreversible hash — for the sole purpose of recognising the entry if the register publishes it again, so it stays off. We also keep the email address that made the request, so we can evidence that it was made. Everything else is deleted 30 days after the listing comes down; the delay exists so a removal made in error can be undone.
You have the other UK GDPR rights too: to see what we hold, to have it corrected, and to object. Corrections are usually quicker than removals and we would rather fix a wrong listing than delete a right one.
If you are using the site
Without an account
We set one first-party cookie, pca_anon, holding a random identifier that means nothing on its own. We use it to count how often listings are viewed and contact details are clicked — the numbers that tell us whether the directory is useful.
What we deliberately do not record: your IP address (we store only a salted hash, with a salt that changes daily, used for spam control), the text you type into a search box, your postcode, and the query string of any page you visit. Those are stripped before anything is written down.
Your browser also stores a few preferences locally — your last search location and any bookmarked listings. Those stay on your device.
Analytics
We use PostHog, on its EU servers, for page and event counts. It is configured to keep its identifier in memory only, so it sets no cookie and writes nothing to your device. Automatic event capture and session recording are both switched off, and query strings are stripped from every URL it receives. Because nothing is stored on your device, there is no cookie banner to click.
With an account
If you create one we hold your email address and either a hashed password or the fact that you signed in with Google. Accounts exist to save bookmarks and, for practices, to claim and manage a listing.
If you send an enquiry
The form asks for your name, email, optionally a phone number and postcode, and what you need help with. We store it and, where we hold a working address for the practice, forward it to them — that is the point of sending it. We do not sell enquiries, and we do not use them to decide the order listings appear in.
Search ranking
Worth stating plainly because directories often work otherwise: nobody can pay to rank higher here. Results are ordered by distance or alphabetically, and the interaction data described above is structurally barred from touching that ordering.
Who else sees this data
We use a small number of suppliers who process data on our behalf: Hetzner for hosting (Germany), Resend for sending email, PostHog (EU) for the analytics above, and Google if you choose to sign in with it. Postcodes are looked up against postcodes.io, and maps are served by Mapbox. We do not sell personal data to anyone.
How long we keep things
Listings stay while the register still publishes them. Interaction events are kept as long-run trend data and hold nothing that identifies you. Enquiries are kept so we can show a practice what was sent. Accounts last until you close them. Suppression records are kept indefinitely, by design — that is what stops a removed listing coming back.
Who is responsible
PetCare Atlas is operated by Concierge Vet LTD, a veterinary company registered in England and Wales under company number 14501259, run by Alastair Greenway BVM&S MRCVS and Claire Greenway BVM&S MRCVS. Concierge Vet LTD is the data controller, which means we decide why and how personal data here is processed, and is registered with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office as a data controller under registration number ZC151357. Our registered office is Bretton, Wycombe Road, Studley Green, High Wycombe, HP14 3XA, United Kingdom. UK data protection law applies — the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

If we get this wrong, tell us first and we will try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or on 0303 123 1113.
